Although I hadn’t expected a snowstorm in late April, it had its upside after the storm when I wandered around the campground with my camera. What struck me as most interesting weren’t the wide vistas with white fields and tall trees but the branches heavy with snow. The snow outlined bare branches on this tree, with ice beneath the branches as the snow melted then froze. And some branches can hold more snow than others! This almost looks like a balancing act, there is so much weight on each of the thin branches. By Sunday morning, the snow was melting quickly and…

Friday, Before the Storm
It’s the anticipation of something that makes us either rejoice or fear it. In the case of the big snowstorm that was heading my way, I chose to revel in it and enjoy the light and clouds before it would all be covered in inches of the white stuff. A small group of deer was eating all the grass they could find. Did they somehow know that it would all be hidden under snow the next morning? The trees with their new green leaves would be caught unaware by the cold and the weight of the snow on tender shoots and…
Only a Year Ago…
Last year, on April 28, I was 4 days away from picking up my Alto in Quebec. It was an amazing trip eastbound so I wanted to share a few of my favorite photo memories from that journey. On the first full day of my trip, I got snowed on in Idaho and Montana. A year later, I’m just about to get snowed on in Colorado. Some things never change, and my crazy superpower of bringing precipitation is still strong. Walking across the headwaters of the Mississippi River was definitely fun! (And thanks again, Linda, for telling me about it…
Weekly Update: April 26, 2017
‘Twas a quiet week for me, one I enjoyed after the big city life the last few weeks. I spent most of the time holed up at Trinidad Lake State Park in southern Colorado, enjoying long hikes and big blue skies. This view from the Reilly Canyon trail is one of my favorites. I did have some science fun last week, after a friend noticed where I was and asked if I had ever seen the K/T boundary. My response was a polite version of Huh, What?? And so she sent me a handout for a field trip she’d taken people…
Sunday Serenity: Reflections
After the hustle and bustle of Albuquerque and Santa Fe, I booked myself a quiet week at Trinidad Lake because I had some thinking to do about “big things in life” and how I’m doing 8 months after retiring and almost a year after becoming an RV full-timer. I was struggling to articulate my issues all week, until two conversations with two friends, followed by a long walk by the water. The first breakthrough was in the form of a metaphor from the first friend and conversation. After I retired, I was still on the “working for a living” shore…
