Started the day on the western edge of central Wisconsin, where I have family to visit, including three great nieces, and ended the day on the eastern edge of South Dakota, at a place called Pelican Lake.

Before I got too far into the drive, I met up with a spacetweep friend on his home turf (last time we met up was in the Amsterdam airport a few months ago). He had excellent taste in local eateries. If you’re ever in the area, check it out, the bacon cheeseburger was perfect. Thanks, Danny!

All across the width of Minnesota were these amazing vistas, with the land so flat most of the time that I had 180 degree views of sky and clouds. It kept me entertained during the long straight stretches of road between gas stations, which pretty much describes the driving itself. I used one shot as the quotation of the day (below).
This is farm country, and so I had to shoot a few as I drove by. This one ended up being my favorite shot.

And the day ended well, with this view out my big front window.

Today’s quotation

Thanks, Deirdre, for reading (and commenting!) After this trip, I don’t want to drive more than 2 hours for a very long time!
Hi, Deb! I went to the Black Hills and “the heads” several years ago. This trip is mostly about me getting across the country back to Seattle, since I only have a month off from work to get to Quebec and back. If only America were smaller, or we had those Star Trek transporters…
I am thoroughly enjoying your trip and your pictures! I hope you get to stop somewhere in the Black Hills – that and the Grasslands area was a complete surprise to me when we went through there a few years ago. We were in a tent and we had a blissful few days near Rapid City that were just enchanted – even when it rained!!!!
Just beautiful Annie…the pics and the writings…thanks for opening up your journey to those of us not venturing very far from our home!!
