I’m sure it’s not the LAST call I will make to the company making my trailer, but yesterday was the last chance I had to change options before everything is locked down and ordered for production. How exciting! And what a relief!
I asked friends, googled a lot, listened to the elders of my Safari Condo tribe on Facebook, and then sat down with a spreadsheet and a lot of notes to make my decisions. For the record, here’s what I ordered. As the manufacturer representative said (and he is a very patient and helpful guy), there is no right answer, just what is right for you. This all feels right for me (with the caveat that post-delivery mods are always an option!)
Blue tint color
Caravan mover (remote control)
Wireless backup/rear camera
2 solar panels, 166 watts total
Water heater/heater (LPG/electric)
Automatic roof fan
What I didn’t get:
AM/FM/CD with speakers, radio antenna
Memory foam on the cushions
What I’ll probably do after I take delivery:
– Upgrade the propane tank to a lighter, bigger volume one
– Buy a small generator
– Debate endlessly about adding a bike rack vs. folding bike
Oh, who am I kidding? I’m already accessorizing! My Alto wish list on Amazon is longer than my regular wish list now, and I’ve barely scratched the surface of things I need (like wheel chocks and locks) and things I want (like lightweight bowls, plates, and so on). Then there’s all the learning I want to do: propane safety, towing safety, checklists, boondocking, the route from here to Quebec and back… it’s going to be a busy winter!
And so to keep me going, this is one of the photos I have handy. It’s not quite my Alto configuration but close enough and it’s definitely the right color!
